Tom Huxford, PhD

Co-Leader, Research Project: Excessive Body Weight and Ovarian Cancer

Dr. Tom Huxford is a Professor of Biochemistry at SDSU. His research focuses on understanding detailed chemical mechanisms of important cellular factors. He is making significant progress in understanding activation and regulation of NF-κB, a protein complex that controls expression of cell survival genes in response to diverse environmental signals. Although a proper NF-κB response is integral to a cell’s ability to fight off infection and respond to stress, too much can lead to chronic inflammation and promote tumor formation and growth. Dr. Huxford also is the Co-Leader of the Research Project: Excessive Body Weight and Ovarian Cancer at the SDSU HealthLINK Center.
