The Measurement Methods Group (MMG) provides researchers with guidance, assistance, and/or training on different measurement approaches including cognitive interviews, focus groups, as well as survey and scale development, refinement, adaptation and translation using translation panels. MMG also provides services related to Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems (e.g., REDCap Cloud, REDCap Academics, and Qualtrics) and Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) system (e.g., ilumivu mEMA).
Consultation and support for data collection using apps and web platforms to collect study data electronically.
Consultation can be provided to determine which EDC system is best suited for a particular project
Training and support for data collection using EMA systems to collect repeated subject data in real time.
Consultation and support for paper-pencil surveys that can be scanned to collect data.
Support for modifying, refining, translating, and adapting scales for target populations.
Consultation for choosing the right survey, scale, or measurement approach for your research.
Evaluate and select currently available scales from the literature (literature review must be conducted by the requestor before consultation)
Consultation and support for creating new surveys, scales, or measurement approaches.
Assist in developing surveys and multi-item scales
Support for using focus groups in the development of scales and measures.
Support and/or train teams on how to facilitate focus groups — small-group discussions guided by a trained facilitator to learn about opinions on recently developed scales/measures
Consultation and training on cognitive interviews for scale and measure development.
Support and/or train teams on how to conduct cognitive interviews — one-on-one interviews to gather feedback on understanding, interpretation, and answers of each question
Support for assessing psychometric properties of a scale including validity and reliability.
